Dork Fest December 2011

If you have ever lived with me, you know I love playing dress up. I mean what else is there to do when you're home alone on a Friday night? I had too much fun not to share.

"The best thing about being a woman
is the prerogative to have a little fun

Oh, oh, oh, go totally crazy-forget I'm a lady
Men's shirts-short skirts
Oh, oh, oh, really go wild- yeah, doin' it in style Oh, oh, oh, get in the action-feel the attraction Color my hair-do what I dareOh, oh, oh, I wanna be free-yeah, to feel the way I feel
Man! I feel like a woman!."

Christmas Spirit

Here's a post possibly worth reading!

So, my mom recently found out that she has a really serious gum condition that requires a procedure as soon as possible. If she doesn't do something soon, there would be really bad consequences- including her teeth falling out. It was really horrible timing, considering everything else she's got to worry about right now, and she has no insurance to cover the $3,000+ expense.

When I heard about it I really wanted to help, but had no idea what to do. So naturally, I prayed about it. I thought of something shortly after, and called Nicole to get her on board too.

Today we had the chance to put our plan in action. We went and sat at the exit of a busy parking lot, held our signs, and waited nervously. After a couple minutes, someone rolled down their window and handed me a few dollar bills. We were completely thrilled. We spent the next couple hours singing Christmas carols and collecting whatever people were willing to spare. We met tons of nice people, and I was shocked to see how willing people were to give. We even had a few cars drive back to give us money because they hadn't time to get us any the first time around. Several people apologized they didn't have more with them. Quite a few people even handed us $20 bills. It was incredible.

When we got home we counted the money up and were so happy. It's still just a fraction of what the procedure will cost, but it's $242.72 more than we had this morning.

We put the money in a box and gave it to my mom a few hours later. She took the box curiously, and was completely overwhelmed when she saw what was inside. Many tears and hugs later, I went home on a cloud.

I'm so incredibly grateful for the wonderful, generous people who helped us out today. I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to help and surprise my amazing mom who has done so much for me.

Life is beautiful. I hope you're all enjoying this wonderful time of year. Merry Christmas!

Ordinary

Sometimes it's fun to be a high-adventuring devil-may-care hipster wild child. Some days, it's nice to realize you're pretty average and that's okay.

I like sleeping in. I think apple pie is great. I still listen to matchbox twenty and goo goo dolls all the time. I'm a mediocre piano player. I get things done, sometimes I procrastinate. I like talking to other people. I sing in the shower.

And life is good.

Alternate Identities?

I read this book this week, it's one that's sat on my shelf for awhile now. I wasn't expecting I'd get that into it, but I actually liked it a lot. It's a fast read, and great culturization if you're into classics like I am. It gives an interesting perspective on the human soul, and deep symbolism that could be applied to many parts of the human condition, particularly addiction. I quite like Stevenson's style of writing as well. I've loved the music for years.. and can't wait to watch that version.

Also, I was a little more than slightly amused to find that Dr. Jekyll's first name is Harry and Mr. Hyde's is Edward.. Come on, it's kind of funny right? Anyway..

In other news on Tuesday there will be only 192 days until my best friend gets home :) It's a little surreal to think that he'll be back so soon, but I couldn't be more excited. Time has been flying.. look- it's already the last week of classes. I had my only "final" this week. I sang "Goodnight My Someone" for it and I think it went quite well. Work has been busy, but I'm sure glad there isn't the stress of finals looming :)

So I dyed my hair recentlyish.. It caused a bit of a stir with my students at first, but I think they're all adjusted now.

A little darker than I'd usually go, but change can be fun. I still feel quite blonde at heart.

Well, that's all for today folks. Have a very merry December!

P.S. Lame title.. it was all I could come up with to relate my hair to Jekyll and Hyde.
